Laura Kahane AMRSB BSc (Hons) MRes  
Ecological Consultant/Director 

Laura has been working in the Ecology sector since 2015 and prior to opening Wild Earth Ecology gained valuable experienced within the wildlife conservation and research sectors. She is an associate member of the Royal Society of Biology (RSB), has a certificate in Ecological Consultancy, a BSc (Hons) in Wildlife, Ecology & Conservation from the University of Portsmouth and a Masters of Research (MRes) from Imperial College London (ICL) where she later worked as a Research Assistant within the Woodward lab investigating the impacts of climate change and chemicals on freshwater food webs. She is a resident speaker on local countryside courses including the impacts of deer on biodiversity and bat rehabilitation. She specialises in bats with a broader interest in mammals and has worked on bat, bird and predator biomonitoring projects in remote regions in Guyana, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and India. Laura holds a class 2 bat licence and has a range of experience supporting projects in advanced bat survey techniques from major infrastructure to private commercial or conservation based bat projects. She has also received professional dog handler training from varied K9 Consultancies and has an Ecology detection dog in training. To date, her professional research topics have included SARS-CoV-2 surveillance in UK bat species; acoustic assessment of the neotropical bat species in the Calakmul Biosphere reserve, Mexico; the use of eDNA for reintroduced beaver detection, the impact of chemical and climate change stressors on freshwater ecosystems and food webs and the thermal properties of Hazel Dormouse nest boxes. Outside of professional  work, she is Bat Conservation Trust registered Bat rehabilitator and a member of Hampshire and Dorset Bat Groups and Hampshire Mammal Group.

 

A varied scope of highly experienced professional Ecologists support Wild Earth Ecology and are individually selected for each project.
